Blobe Goat

Blobe Goat

The highly endangered Blobe Goat is an old and long established breed of mountain goat in the border regions between North and South Tirol.  The name derives from the Tirolean word for blue which describes the typical blue-grey colour of their coat. In general both the male and female have large horns.

Over the centuries the Blobe Goats have been selected for their robustness and undemanding needs.  The thick undercoat that makes them impervious to the extreme weather conditions of the highlands is typical for this breed.

The Blobe Goat was used in the upper mountain regions where other breeds struggled to graze.  It is a multi-purpose breed that due to its good muscles and flesh also gives a good milk yield.
