Magyar Hidegvérú – Hungarian Coldblood

Magyar Hidegvérú – Hungarian Coldblood

The Magyar Hidegvérú or Hungarian Coldblood originates from the 16th – 17th Century in Hungary. These are strong, medium-sized horses with calm temper that were used in agriculture and the transport of goods. The Magyar Hidegvérú was developed by crossbreeding Hungarian breeds with different cold blooded breeds from Western countries as the Austrian Noriker, French Percheron and the Belgian Ardennen. Since 1954 the breed is officially approved. Since 1960 there has been a steady decline in the need for draft horses used in agriculture causing the population of Magyar Hidegvérū breed to become rare.   It is estimated at approximately 1.200 horses at the present time.
