Philharmonie Marchfeld is a symphony orchestra composed of 65 musicians and founded in 1983, with headquarters in Gänserndorf, district capital in the Marchfeld region, approx. 30 km northeast of Vienna. Initiated for a shared love of music and the joy of playing music together, the orchestra has since become one of the largest, most active and most sought-after cultural institutions in the region. It regularly performs concerts with a repertoire ranging from Baroque to modern times.
Philharmonie Marchfeld has been recognised well beyond the town of Gänserndorf. Between 1999 and 2005, it ran an Interreg project in cooperation with the Trnava chamber orchestra in Slovakia, with many joint performances in that country and an intensive cultural exchange. The orchestra also performed in the Czech Republic and went on a concert tour of Japan in 1999, celebrating considerable success before thousands of spectators in the cities of Soka City, Amagasaki, Fukui, Koto and Tokyo.
Empress Michiko paid the orchestra the great honour of attending their concert in Tokyo and hosted a reception for a delegation of the orchestra afterwards. At the turn of 2001 Philharmonie Marchfeld went on a highly acclaimed tour of China, playing famous works by the Strauss dynasty in the cities of Beijing, Hangzhou, Wenzhou and Ningbo.
Apart from the full orchestra’s concerts primarily performed in Gänserndorf, Schloss Hof and Vienna there is a series of chamber concerts which Philharmonie Marchfeld has been producing at Schloss Hof for several years now.
